Life is determined by the direction of your lean.
Do you have uncertainty, questions, or misunderstandings in life? The direction we lean and who we lean into will often determine the direction of our lives.
A football coach once told me that a defensive lineman should always look at the offensive lineman’s hand when he gets into his stance and puts it on the ground. The reason why is because you can tell what direction he is going to block when the ball is snapped. If you see his knuckles are turning white, its because he is leaning forward on that hand and is about to block forward on a running play. If his knuckles are not turning white, that means he is leaning backwards, taking pressure off that hand, because he is about to drop back into pass protection. So, the direction the offensive lineman is going to go is heavily determined by the way he is leaning.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not “lean” on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
A poorly coached offensive lineman does not understand that just his “lean” can give away his intentions. There are things he simply doesn’t know. A good lineman will acknowledge that his coach knows more than he does and heed his warnings and listen to his advice.
As Christians, we should always seek God for a better understanding of our situation. There are always things outside of our own understanding that we do not know.
So, just like the offensive lineman, the direction you are going to move in life is determined by the direction of your lean.
Are you going to move forwards or backwards?
Will you lean into Jesus or will you lean into your own understanding?
What color are your knuckles?
