One Day

“The Power of One Day”

I love the newness, freshness and excitement that can come with this time of the year!  I hope this season can also bring you some renewed desire and strength to dream again, plant again, believe again and trust God again.

Do you believe that One Day with God can change your Every Day?

Jesus illustrated many times for us the importance of One Day!  The Bible teaches us that One Day can truly impact and affect our every day.  Matthew 6 tells us our need for daily bread, Luke 9 tells us to pick up our cross daily, Psalm 145:2 implores us to praise daily and Hebrews 3 teaches us the vitality of daily ministry.

I believe in the power of One Day!  I have fond memories of the One Day experiences that have changed my life forever.  Some of my greatest One Day memories consist of my wedding day, the days each of my four children were born, graduation day from both high school and Bible college and, of course, the day I accepted Christ.

Psalm 84:10 tells us – Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.

We live in a society where we are flooded with anxiety and worry about our past, our daily schedules, regrets, debts, and plans for the future.  These stressors can often blur our vision of the future and often blind us completely to the workings of God within our lives.  Many people ultimately give in to living life in such a way that it is not at all what they dreamed or imagined it would be.  For you who are reading this article, I encourage you to simply pause today and allow God the opportunity to give you a One Day experience.

Acts 3 tells us an interesting story about a man who was lame from his birth and how One Day changed his life forever.  The Bible says “One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.

Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.”  Here we find that someone’s everyday struggles became a One Day success through God’s power!  Can you imagine your entire life changing in One Day?  What situations in your family, finances, faith or spirituality would you like to change and see turned around in just One Day?

Another intriguing part of this man’s story was that, his every day begging was a consequence of something he was born with, not something he had brought on himself.  Many times, in life, we become so familiar with our weaknesses and imperfections that we begin to accept them as though they will always be a part of us.  When this happens, we lose our ability to see that our lives can be changed in One Day.

In the Oscar winning movie, As Good as It Gets, the lead character finds himself trapped in an obsessive compulsive world where no one understands him and he is all but unable to deal with people in the real world.  He wonders; “What if this is as good as it gets?”  We all find ourselves questioning our lot in life.  Is this our destiny?  Are we stuck with the deck that we have been dealt? Are we trapped where we are because of the DNA in our genes?

What if you and I have decided to live with an everyday burden or struggle that could be completely transformed by One Day with God?

In no way do I claim to offer an option of a perfect life; I simply believe in the power of God to change and improve our lives both physically and spiritually, instantaneously, through His Word and Spirit.  My prayer is that you would analyze the circumstances you have come to accept as your “lot” in life and believe for God to transform them through the power of One Day!  Let’s continue to remind ourselves that – Better is one day in His courts than a thousand elsewhere.
